Little Rock, AR (Sports Network) - The University of Arkansas-Little Rock extended the contracts of men's and women's head basketball coaches Steve Shields and Joe Foley through June 2013 on Tuesday. The university also extended the contract of athletic director Chris Peterson through June 2013, rewarding the man who has reshaped Trojan athletics since taking over in November 2000. Fayetteville, AR (Sports Network) - The University of Arkansas intends to file a waiver on the behalf of quarterback Ryan Mallett in an effort to make the transfer from Michigan eligible for 2008. Mallett transferred from Michigan to Arkansas after Rich Rodriguez was named the new coach in Ann Arbor. Under NCAA rules, Mallett is required to sit out a year. "After visiting with Ryan and his parents, we feel that it is appropriate to file a waiver in this case based on extenuating circumstances,"

Fayetteville, AR (Sports Network) - The University of Arkansas has named John Pelphrey its new men's basketball coach. Pelphrey spent the past five seasons as the head coach at South Alabama, guiding the Jaguars to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2006 and the NIT this past season. He was the Sun Belt Conference coach of the year in 2006. South Alabama was 80-67 under Pelphrey, including marks of 24-7 in 2005-06 and 20-12 in '06-07.
